Who among us does not feel the pull of the child within us?
Who among us that has a cold heart doesn’t feel it melt at the laughter of a child?
Who among us would lay asleep while a child cried itself to sleep?
Who among us would not give up their life to save the life of a child?
To the child, I will never know I wish you, someone, to know you.
To the child, I will never hold I wish you, someone, to hold on to you.
To the child I will never love I wish you someone who loves you.
To the child, I will never teach I wish you, someone, to be taught by and be taught by you.
To the child, I will never heal I hope you have someone to heal your ever wound.
To the child whose soul I will never touch may our souls touch in another time and space.
Is this just some of what it is to enter parenthood?
Are we not all parents in some form?
Does parenthood start with your own child’s first breath or the first time you look after a child?
To the children whom I know and will know, thank you for the pleasure of knowing you.
To the children whom I have and will hold, thank you for the pleasure of touch.
To the children whom I have and will love, thank you for the pleasure of been loved.
To the children whom I have and will teach, thank you for sharing your knowledge and reminding me that I have lots to still learn.
To the children whom I have and will heal, thank you for allowing me the priceless gift of healing.
To the souls I have met and shared, thank you for sharing your inner space with me.
To all the children, young and older, I have met thank you.
To all the children, young and older, I haven’t met I await our meeting with open arms.
To all thank you for my parenthood.
